Ideas can be dangerous things…The Bleed was originally inspired by the creative partnerships forged between postgraduate students on MRes programmes in the School of Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Northumbria in 2010-11. This is where the idea was born, but it did not end there. It soon became more than a magazine, it bled over the edges, and developed a life of its own, it evolved, and became….The Bleed.
The New Form…

The Bleed
We are not like everybody else, but if you’re reading this then you already know that. It’s obvious we do things a little differently, but that’s something we’re proud of.
We thrive on challenging expectations of what a magazine can be, and enjoy celebrating the diversity of our content. Whether we succeed in accommodating the chaos or not, we want to be a catalyst for discussion, for thought, for new ideas.
We’re here to inspire others to pick up their pens, to write and draw,
to point their cameras at the world, to open their eyes, to create. Life is nothing but a series of stories and everyone has a tale to tell. Like any good story, we want to draw you in, hold your attention to the last page, and leave you looking at the world in a different way.
The Bleed is a unique space where people can share their ideas,engage with art, but most of all tell their stories. Here, you are free to create anything you can imagine. Here, art and reality, past and future, real and unreal, bleed into one another, here worlds collide and are reborn, and at the heart of it all is creation.
